Buffalo Fights
Prohibited in the rest of the Thai kingdom, they remain very popular in Kho Samui.
It is one of the most popular sports in southern Thailand. The island’s 10 battle arenas are recognizable by the bamboo walls and coconut tree branches. They deny access to people who have not paid an entrance fee.
The fight ends when one of the two buffaloes turns around, usually well before being seriously injured. Sometimes a fight only lasts a few seconds.
Fighting doesn’t happen often, but if you see street signs announcing events, we recommend a visit.
It is interesting to note that the locals do not attend these events because of the show, but because of the bets. Very large sums of money are at stake.
Entrance approx. 100 – 150 THB for men. Women don’t pay an entrance fee.
